Meningitis

Occasionally, students contract bacterial meningitis and the University work with health services to minimise the risk to other students and staff.  More information about symptoms can be found at http://www.bris.ac.uk/university/alert/

In brief:

The symptoms of meningitis may include one or more of the following but may not necessarily occur together

  • Severe headache
  • High temperature / fever
  • Vomiting
  • Neck stiffness
  • Dislike of bright lights
  • Drowsiness / lethargy
  • Joint pains
  • Rash- red/purple spots which looks like bruising under the skin and does not blanch when pressed with a glass

If you are unwell or are concerned that you or a friend may have meningitis contact the Students’ Health Service, Occupational Health Service or your own GP immediately.
